One of the major reasons people avoid going to the dentist is fear. Fear of pain, fear of what they may be told, fear of the unknown. Here are several ways to overcome dental anxiety at Tempe Smile Design.
4 Reasons for Dental Anxiety
Ask questions. Tell your dentist and her staff about what makes you nervous during dental visits. We are happy to customize your dental consultation and treatment visits to help ease your fears.
If you had a bad dental experience in the past, do not assume this is normal and every dental visit will be the same way. We are very much about your comfort and overall experience at our office. We will do everything in our power to make sure you WANT to continue coming back to our office.
We offer Netflix and Pandora Radio in every treatment room. You are welcome to watch a tv show or movie, or, listen to music while having your needed dental work performed. This is a great distraction and anxiety reducer, especially if dental treatment noises make you nervous.
We, also, offer nitrous oxide gas or oral pre-sedation (anti-anxiety medication) to help reduce anxiety. Be sure to tell us if you need one of these options prior to your visit so we can prescribe the medication and have the room properly setup for these services. Also, you must have someone drive you to and from your appointment if you take any anti-anxiety medication.
We have seen many anxious patients in our office over the years. It is not uncommon for these patients to use the nitrous oxide gas or an oral anti-anxiety medication for an appointment or two, then, decide they don’t need them when they get to know us and realize the dental treatment experience is much better than they expected.
