My name is Dr. Stacy Tracy. No, it’s not a joke! That is my real name (I get asked that A LOT!). Luckily, I did not have to grow up with this name, but it has served me well in my professional career which is Dentistry. It is a name that is easy to remember, and I like to think, kind of FUN!
I am a female Dentist in a field that is quite full of male Dentists. My partner in the practice is Dr. Roxane Huber (who loves when people who hear her name break out into song. You know which song I’m talking about!). We are the owners of Tempe Smile Design. I guess you already know that because if you are seeing this, you are on our webpage.
I thought I would start this blog by telling you a little bit about myself. I became a Dentist for the strangest of reasons, and knew quite early in life that I wanted to be a Dentist. When I was 9 years old, I had a pretty severe accident involving the monkey bars. I flew, on a dare of course, across the bars to the opposite side and landed mouth first on the bottom METAL rung of the ladder! Needless to say, I lost the battle with the ladder. I bit all the way through my bottom lip, and almost lost both of my upper center front teeth, which we in “the biz” call #8 and 9. I severely damaged my 4 upper front teeth. It required oral surgery to fix my teeth back into the bone, root canals on all four of those teeth, many stitches to reattach my lip, and much cosmetic dentistry later to restore them to what they look like now. Thankfully, when you see me now, you would never know I went through all of that. That is thanks to some amazing physicians and dentists who did a fabulous job taking care of me.
It is because of the amount of work I endured that I decided to become a dentist. It peaked an interest in me to do for others what was done for me. It became my passion and my goal from about the 8th grade forward to see that it was realized. Not ONCE did I question my path. I was driven to make this dream a reality. Many people find it “gross” that anyone would want to be a dentist…to be in peoples’ mouths. But I have never seen it that way. In fact, when I look at people, I immediately look at their teeth. And if they are not nice, I imagine the ways that I can change that for them.
Your smile is the focal point of your face. People judge you, wrong or right, on what your teeth look like. And being able to smile with a confident smile makes you feel good. I can tell you from experience, that you can change someone’s life by improving their smile. We can help people get that confidence and self-esteem by doing sometimes the simplest of things. Obviously, there are times it takes major work to achieve the desired outcome, but it can be as simple as recontouring a chipped tooth, or bleaching them.
Well, I think I went on a little long here for my first blog posting. I’ll try not to be so wordy next time!
Until then, Keep Smiling!!!
